Curious about the “Secret Stairs of LA” ? One of the walks in the book by Charles Fleming is in western Pasadena. A repeat of a group walk we did about a year ago, we’ll follow this guided walk for 2.7 miles and 996 steps/stairs! Meet in front of the Post Office at Fig and Colorado.

RSVP on the Facebook Event Page or comment here to let us know you’re coming!

The route for this walk comes from the book “Secret Stairs: A Walking Guide to the Historic Staircases of Los Angeles” by Charles Fleming

Here’s the walk text and map, from the site. Sherry and I will lead the walk, but if you want to set your own pace, you can download and print or load on your phone ahead of time: WALKS-1.pdf

More about the Secret Stairs of LA: “The staircases lace the hillsides of L.A. neighborhoods, and are historical reminders of a time when this was not a city of cars. City planners and developers installed them as direct routes for pedestrians—housewives and children particularly—to get down the hills to school, the supermarket, and transit lines. The city at that time was well served by trolleys, streetcars, buses, and light-rail systems. The staircases were clustered around steep hillside communities near these transit lines, especially steep-streeted communities that developed in the 1920s.” From http://www.secretstairs-la.com
